STEP 2: INITIATE

OVERVIEW

This step is key to putting fundamental pieces in place that will be needed to successfully execute a specific sustainable neighbourhood project. By the end of this step, a project vision has been established. Work plans and strategies are in place to direct the project team, to engage the stakeholder group and to raise the profile of the proposed sustainable neighbourhood development.

Task 3: Clarify Project Potential

The core development team conducts the initial assessment to determine the project scope and to determine areas of key sustainability opportunity.

Task 4: Develop Process and Engagement Strategies

A work plan and a stakeholder engagement strategy are prepared. This ensures there is a common understanding of required tasks and that stakeholders remain engaged throughout the process.

Task 5: Develop Communication Strategy

A brief is prepared that lays out the project’s short- and long-term communications objectives that will meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Task 6: Establish Project Vision

The stakeholder group is identified and brought together to talk about the project and their vision and concerns. This input is crafted into a vision statement.
