Task 9: Establish Goals
Identify preliminary goals
Based on the project vision and the constraints and opportunities analysis, a range of potential goals are identified by the sustainability consultant for each sustainable neighbourhood theme. Goals are broad statements that describe the desired condition to be achieved. They are derived from a synthesis of existing policy, stakeholder input, best management practice and sustainable neighbourhood research.
Deliver goal-setting workshop
Stakeholders are brought together in a workshop facilitated by the sustainability consultant. The intent of the workshop is to prioritize the preliminary goals, make adjustments as necessary and establish a mutually agreed upon set of sustainable neighbourhood goals for the project. One or more goals are typically established for each sustainable neighbourhood theme.

Confirm project goals
Based on input from the workshop, the sustainability consultant compiles the list of project goals. The list is reviewed by the key stakeholders, refined as necessary and shared as an important milestone with the broader stakeholder group. These sustainable neighbourhood goals help to focus research on priority issues and to inform and guide the charrette process.
