Work Plan Resources
The application of the SuNliving framework to a sustainable neighbourhood project requires a detailed work plan that translates the general concept of sustainable development into a physical plan and a course of action. The SuNliving work plan expands the five framework steps with tasks for each step and activities for each task. The work plan results in a neighbourhood concept plan and an implementation manual that guide a project through detailed design and construction.
To facilitate a greater understanding of the work plan, a number of the activities detailed in this section are supplemented with support material such as the types of tools used when conducting the activity, and links to additional reference sources and case study examples. 1. The Emerald Hills Urban Village SuN Guidelines and related case study examples.
SuNliving and its underlying philosophy and core elements have evolved and been refined based on its application to the Emerald Hills Urban Village (www.emerald-hills.ca). The Urban Village is a 20 hectare (50 acre) site-scale development embedded in a larger traditional neighbourhood development. Although not neighbourhood-scale, Emerald Hills Urban Village has all of the components required for it to serve as a sustainable neighbourhood case study for SuNliving. The case study material has been integrated into the five SuNliving framework steps and can be downloaded. |

2. The Charrette Handbook: An Essential Guide to Accelerated, Collaborative Community Planning; and interactive CD’s, The NCI Charrette Forms Kits, Volumes 1 & 2.
The National Charrette Institute (NCI) Charrette Handbook and Forms Kits emerged after years of field application of the Dynamic Planning Process. This resource material provides detailed information and tools that are invaluable for those tasked with planning and delivering the charrette phases embedded in the SuNliving work plan. It is available through the NCI website at www.charretteinstitute.org. |
